Portugal and Pakistan Strengthen Diplomatic Relations in Madeira

The Representative of the Republic for the Region hosted an official meeting with the Ambassador of Pakistan to Portugal, Muhammad Khalid Ejaz, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and recognizing the contributions of the Pakistani community to the regional economy. The discussion covered key topics including economic cooperation, the current geopolitical situation, and opportunities for scientific research and tourism collaboration.
During the audience held at São Lourenço Palace, regional representative Ireneu Barreto praised the Pakistani community’s positive impact, describing it as a vital contributor to the local economy and an excellent example of integration. Both parties underscored the significance of further deepening economic and political relations between Portugal and Pakistan, countries that share a longstanding relationship and marked 75 years of diplomatic ties last year.
This event marked Ambassador Ejaz’s inaugural official visit to Madeira. The meeting included an open exchange of views regarding current tourism trends and joint prospects for research and scientific development, reflecting a shared interest in expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
