Pakistan and China Explore Health Sector Investment and Local Production

Pakistan’s Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has met with the Chairman of China’s Shandong Group to discuss deepening cooperation in healthcare, including local manufacturing of medical devices and pharmaceuticals. The talks focused on fostering technology transfer, facilitating Chinese investment, and enabling the production of reliable, high-quality, and affordable medical products within Pakistan.

Senior officials including the Health Secretary and Director General Health attended the meeting, where both sides explored how Chinese expertise could help meet Pakistan’s healthcare needs. Discussions included the potential for joint ventures and strategic investments that would modernize Pakistan’s health sector and boost self-sufficiency in medical technologies.

Minister Kamal expressed the Pakistani government’s full support for these initiatives, underscoring the importance of reducing reliance on medical imports and lowering healthcare costs nationwide. He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing the necessary facilitation for new investment and collaboration, with the goal of expanding access to essential healthcare products across the country.

This initiative is part of Pakistan’s wider strategy to attract foreign investment in critical industries, while strengthening domestic production capabilities through international partnerships.
