The Pakistan–Rwanda Parliamentary Friendship Group has met with Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Pakistan to discuss new ways to deepen relations between the two countries. Both sides underscored the need to boost parliamentary cooperation, economic ties, and collaboration across a range of sectors including business, banking, technology, tourism, and defence.
During the meeting, held at the Parliament House in Islamabad, Ms. Aasia Ishaque Siddiqui, head of the Friendship Group, welcomed High Commissioner Fatou Harerimana. The Pakistani convener also highlighted the situation in Jammu & Kashmir, urging Rwanda to support a peaceful solution in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. She pointed to the importance of strengthening government-to-government and business-to-business links to unlock trade and investment opportunities. Other areas of potential cooperation identified included expanding collaboration in the banking sector, promoting information technology initiatives, encouraging tourism and cultural exchanges, and tightening parliamentary bonds.
Ms. Siddiqui assured the Rwandan High Commission of Pakistan’s commitment to swiftly resolving issues related to pending Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), with active support from relevant ministries and departments.
High Commissioner Fatou Harerimana expressed Rwanda’s eagerness to enhance bilateral ties, particularly in developing closer economic links. She also recognized the expanding defence cooperation between Pakistan and Rwanda, pledging to initiate specialized training programs for defence officers to foster institutional relationships and build capacity in both countries.
