Romania Pakistan Trade Partnership and Opportunities

Romanian Foreign Ministry official Oana Țoiu visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) in Islamabad, meeting with FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh to discuss expanding economic ties. Both sides described the talks as constructive and agreed there is significant scope to deepen cooperation through joint ventures and co-investments across multiple sectors.

During the visit, Țoiu was hosted by the FPCCI’s Established Committee for Business Development Europe and North America, where she presented the business opportunities Romania offers to Pakistani firms. The meetings focused on practical steps to strengthen the Romania–Pakistan economic relationship and move beyond a traditional buyer–seller model.

Delegates identified complementary strengths in both economies and highlighted priority sectors for increased trade and investment, including automotive, agriculture, information technology, textiles, healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and food processing. Emphasis was placed on joint ventures and co-investments that leverage each country’s capabilities rather than one-off trade transactions.

Țoiu promoted Romania as a strategic gateway for Pakistani investors into the European Union, citing competitive operating costs, a skilled workforce, and an investment-friendly, stable environment. These advantages, she argued, make Romania an attractive partner for long-term manufacturing, technology and energy projects.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh reaffirmed Romania’s standing as one of Pakistan’s most reliable trading partners in Europe and offered recommendations to elevate bilateral trade. Both sides acknowledged that current trade volumes fall short of their potential and expressed a shared commitment to expanding commercial ties.

The discussion concluded with a mutual readiness to pursue concrete cooperation in energy, IT, agriculture and other sectors, and a pledge by Romanian authorities to work closely with Pakistan’s business community to unlock new opportunities and build a stronger bilateral economic partnership. Statement by Oana Țoiu, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Romania, Islamabad.
