Act Now for Peace Day in Pakistan

The Embassy of Sweden in Pakistan marked the International Day of Peace on 21 September, underscoring the UN call for 24 hours of ceasefire and non-violence. The UN theme this year, Act Now for a Peaceful World, highlights how individual and collective action can advance peace.

On Peace Day the embassy emphasised Sweden’s long‑term approach to peacebuilding by strengthening gender equality and empowering women and girls. Sweden supports programmes that promote inclusive education and teach future generations about cooperation and non-violence, linking local efforts in Pakistan to broader global goals.

Swedish development assistance contributes to initiatives that build resilient societies and foster dialogue across communities. The embassy noted that peace requires active participation from governments, civil society and citizens, and highlighted concrete ways people can speak up and get involved on Peace Day and beyond.

The message from the embassy was practical and action oriented: everyone has a role to play in promoting peace through education, support for women’s empowerment and sustained community engagement. Observing Peace Day in Pakistan is part of a wider commitment to create safer, more equal and more peaceful societies for future generations.
