Deepening Pakistan Ethiopia Ties Through Trade and Flights

Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, the outgoing Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan, paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif this afternoon, marking a cordial close to his diplomatic tenure in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister congratulated the ambassador on the successful completion of his posting and thanked him for his role in strengthening Pakistan Ethiopia ties. Both sides reflected on practical steps taken during the ambassador’s service that advanced bilateral engagement.

Among the achievements acknowledged were the conclusion of a Bilateral Trade Agreement and the resumption of direct flights between Karachi and Addis Ababa. These developments were described as concrete measures that improve connectivity and open new avenues for trade and people-to-people exchanges, reinforcing Pakistan Ethiopia ties in tangible ways.

Highlighting Ethiopia’s important role within Africa, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, especially in trade, investment, agriculture and technical capacity building. The discussion underscored a shared interest in expanding economic links and enhancing technical collaboration between institutions in both countries.

The Ethiopian ambassador expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister and to the people and government of Pakistan for their support and friendship during his tenure. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed warm regards to Ethiopia’s leadership and expressed his desire to increase high-level interaction to sustain and build on the momentum in Pakistan Ethiopia ties.
