Pakistan Takes Active Role in Human Rights Council
On 15 October 2025 Pakistan secured election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026–2028 term, a development the federal minister for human rights described as a demonstration of international trust in Pakistan’s principled stance on human rights.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar conveyed that the election affirms Pakistan’s commitment to dignity, equality, and justice and reflects sustained efforts to strengthen rights protections at home and abroad.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the government has focused on reinforcing human rights institutions, advancing gender equality, protecting vulnerable groups, and promoting greater inclusivity across the country.
As a member of the Human Rights Council Pakistan will pursue a constructive and proactive approach, advancing dialogue and cooperation with other states while upholding universal values of human dignity and rights for all.
