PPP Holds Memorial for Karsaz Martyrs

A solemn memorial in Rawalpindi gathered Pakistan People’s Party leaders, workers and civil society figures to honour the Karsaz martyrs. The event, organised under the auspices of party vice president Basharat Jazbi, saw a large turnout of activists and dignitaries who paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the Karsaz incident.

Addressing the gathering, central PPP leader Raja Javed Ashraf said the October 18, 2007 attack on Benazir Bhutto during her return was an assault on democracy itself. He vowed that the sacrifices of the Karsaz martyrs would not be forgotten and reiterated the party’s commitment to public service and the continuation of democratic principles.

Speakers at the memorial described the Karsaz episode as a dark chapter in the nation’s history and demanded that the full facts be brought to light. They called for comprehensive investigations and for those responsible to be held to account, stressing that justice for the Karsaz martyrs is essential for closure and for strengthening democratic norms.

The ceremony included prayers for the departed and a formal salute to the sacrifices made by the victims. Attendees included Basharat Jazbi alongside a wide array of political and social personalities and party workers who joined in paying respects to the Karsaz martyrs and supporting calls for transparency and accountability.
