Driving Regional Resilience Through ECOSF Action

At the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction in Beijing, the ECO Science Foundation played an active role in a roundtable discussion centered on the Proposal for the International Program on Resilience for Emerging Disaster Risks (REDR).

Prof. Seyed Komail Tayebi, President of the ECOSF, emphasized that strengthening regional resilience requires coordinated action among member states and the integration of science, technology and innovation into practical frameworks. He argued that STI-driven approaches can close gaps in preparedness and response across the region.

Prof. Tayebi also highlighted the need to align new resilience initiatives with the existing ECO Regional Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, ensuring that proposals like REDR build on regional priorities and institutional capacities. Such alignment, he noted, is essential to scale solutions and share best practices among neighboring countries.

The ECOSF participation in Beijing reinforces its commitment to advancing regional resilience through policy dialogue and technical cooperation. Pakistani scientific and disaster management stakeholders stand to benefit from STI-based frameworks and deeper engagement with ECO-led DRR efforts, as collaborative programs take shape under the REDR proposal.

Continued advocacy for investment in research, cross-border cooperation and harmonized DRR policies will be crucial as ECOSF and partners move to translate roundtable recommendations into concrete projects that strengthen regional resilience.
