Driving Pakistan Biodiversity Strategy Forward
A provincial consultation on the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework, was convened under the chairmanship of Sr. Chief Environment Ms. Nadia Shafiq to collect regional inputs and data essential for policy revision.
The session, facilitated by UNDP Pakistan, focused on strengthening Pakistan’s Biodiversity Strategy through evidence-based feedback that will inform the revision of the NBSAP and contribute to the preparation of Pakistan’s 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
Participants explored how alignment with the Global Biodiversity Framework can guide national priorities and practical measures for conservation, resource management, and reporting. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that the Biodiversity Strategy reflects provincial realities and provides clear direction for implementation.
UNDP’s ongoing initiatives, including the Umbrella Programme on the Revision of NBSAPs, the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (GBF-EAS) Project, and the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), were highlighted as key mechanisms to support Pakistan’s efforts for environmental sustainability and conservation.
