Championing Mental Health Through Campus Action
GCU Lahore hosted a focused event on World Mental Health Day where students and faculty engaged in candid conversation about mental health and the stigma that surrounds it in Pakistan. The Department of Psychology welcomed guest speakers from Fountain House who spoke directly to students about the importance of understanding and supporting mental health in academic and community settings.
Dr. Syed Imran Murtaza, Medical Superintendent at Fountain House, and Mrs. Aeysha Imran Murtaza, Director HR&RMD, addressed practical aspects of care and the cultural barriers that often prevent people from seeking help. Their remarks highlighted the role of institutions and peers in creating safe spaces for dialogue and early intervention for mental health concerns.
Following the talks, students and faculty participated in a Mental Health Awareness Walk across campus to visibly promote the cause and spark conversations among the wider university community. The walk was intended to normalize discussions around mental health and encourage students to reach out when they or their peers need support.
The contributions of Fountain House were warmly acknowledged by attendees, with many students praising the clear, action-oriented guidance offered during the session. The event underscored ongoing efforts to break stigma and build stronger support networks for mental health across Pakistani universities.
