Championing Child Protection at KP Assembly
Young leaders and inspiring voices took center stage at the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for World Children’s Day as children delivered powerful speeches focused on child protection and rights. Their testimonies and ideas shaped discussions throughout the day, underscoring the importance of listening to young people in policy spaces.
Participants took part in a parliament session designed for youth engagement, where children debated issues, proposed priorities and experienced parliamentary procedure firsthand. Several delegates read out letters addressed to leaders, making personal appeals and presenting concrete suggestions for strengthening safeguards for children.
An Arts & Manifesto Exhibition gave attendees a window into children’s hopes and visions, with visual pieces and manifestos that expressed dreams for safer schools, stronger community support and greater respect for children’s rights. The exhibition translated the day’s speeches into creative demands that resonated with policymakers and civil society alike.
The session convened senior government officials, politicians, representatives of civil society organizations and UN agencies who joined to celebrate children’s voices and endorse their active participation. The event reaffirmed a shared commitment to child protection and to creating more inclusive platforms where young people can speak directly to those who make decisions affecting their lives.
