Strengthening Secondary Care at Federal General Hospital
Mustafa Kamal chaired a high-level meeting to review the operations and future plans of Federal General Hospital after receiving a detailed briefing from the Executive Director of the Chak Shehzad facility. The presentation covered service delivery, administrative matters and development priorities for the hospital.
The Executive Director described Federal General Hospital Chak Shehzad as a 200-bed secondary care hospital that serves large rural communities of Islamabad, noting that many patients from surrounding areas rely on its outpatient and inpatient services for timely treatment.
Senior officials including the Special Secretary Health, Additional Secretary Health and Joint Secretary Health attended the meeting as the Director of FGH delivered a comprehensive overview of the hospital’s current performance, ongoing projects and proposed development initiatives aimed at improving patient care.
Discussion focused on the main challenges the hospital faces and on practical recommendations to address staffing, infrastructure and service gaps. Emphasis was placed on strengthening primary and secondary health facilities to reduce pressure on major tertiary hospitals in the capital and improve access to care for rural populations.
Minister Mustafa Kamal underlined that improvements in the health sector remain a top priority and asked the ministry to review the submitted recommendations and support the proposed plans to enhance capacity and quality at Federal General Hospital and other secondary care centres.
