Strengthening Pakistan Turkmenistan Parliamentary Ties

A delegation of the Pakistan–Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, convened by Mr. Sanjay Perwani, MNA, met with H.E. Mr. Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Islamabad on February 11, 2026.

The Ambassador delivered a detailed presentation on Turkmenistan’s political system, constitutional framework and parliamentary structure, and explained the country’s foreign policy orientation rooted in permanent neutrality, peace and regional cooperation. He also outlined Turkmenistan’s developmental priorities and economic outlook, underscoring its engagement in multilateral forums to promote dialogue, trust and stability.

Mr. Movlamov highlighted areas of national pride and tourism potential, noting Turkmenistan’s special breed of horses and expansive landscapes as opportunities for cultural and people-to-people exchange. The presentation set the tone for substantive discussion on enhancing ties and practical cooperation between the two countries.

Members of the PFG, including Mr. Fateh Ullah Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Bhugio, Mr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Dr. Darshan and Ms. Naima Kanwal, discussed the current state of bilateral relations with a particular focus on strengthening inter-parliamentary engagement. Conversations explored opportunities to enhance trade, connectivity and transport linkages as well as wider economic cooperation in a forward-looking manner.

Participants appreciated the comprehensive briefing and recognised Turkmenistan’s efforts toward regional cooperation and sustainable development. They stressed the importance of regular dialogue, reciprocal parliamentary delegations and sustained people-to-people interaction to further consolidate longstanding bonds of friendship.

The Convener reiterated that Parliamentary Friendship Groups serve as an effective institutional mechanism to promote understanding, coordination and cooperation between legislatures. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistan Turkmenistan ties and agreed to maintain close contact for future engagements and visits.
