Strengthening Learning with Teacher Aid Kits
The Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Nadeem Mahbub, visited a National Commission for Human Development Non‑Formal Education centre in Bhara Kahu to review how newly distributed Teacher Aid Kits are being used to strengthen foundational learning for out-of-school children. During the visit he observed classroom activities, spoke with teacher Maryam Imran and engaged with 57 enrolled students to assess the kits’ role in everyday teaching.
MoFEPT has distributed 3,450 Teacher Aid Kits to non-formal education teachers across Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as part of an effort to support accelerated learning environments. The kits are designed specifically for non-formal and accelerated learning classrooms to reinforce basic literacy and numeracy through hands-on, participatory and child-centred approaches.
Each kit contains 17 educational items to facilitate interactive lessons, including pocket boards, flashcards, character masks, Snake and Ladder games, handmade puppets, English and Urdu alphabet flashcards, word-making puzzles, number cards, math jigsaw puzzles, magic charts, science charts and simple experiment materials, and unit tens cards. These resources enable storytelling, visual learning, role play and educational games that are especially useful in multigrade settings where a single teacher supports learners of varying ages and levels.
The Secretary noted how the Teacher Aid Kits help promote activity-based instruction and greater student engagement, and he commended the dedication of non-formal education teachers working in communities. To reinforce effective use, MoFEPT has organised ICT-based orientation sessions for all NFE teachers focused on the practical application of kit materials and activity-based teaching methodologies.
The visit to the Bhara Kahu centre was made alongside Ali Asghar, Director General of NCHD, and members of the NCHD team. Officials said the combination of classroom support, teacher training and tailored learning materials aims to improve learning outcomes and broaden access to foundational education in underserved areas.
