Celebrating Algeria Victory Day in Islamabad

The Embassy of Algeria in Islamabad marked the 64th anniversary of Victory Day on March 19, 1962–2026 under the slogan Eternal Glories and Renewed Victories, bringing together embassy staff and members of the Algerian community living in the capital. Ambassador Dr. Brahim Romani presided over the ceremony, which served both as a remembrance and as a reaffirmation of the ties between Algeria and Pakistan.

The programme included a memorial for the martyrs, prayers and a Quran recitation, reflecting the solemn character of the day. In his address Ambassador Romani underscored the significance of the 19 March 1962 ceasefire reached through the Evian Accords and its role in paving the way for Algeria’s independence on 5 July 1962. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Algerian people and the National Liberation Front, noting the estimated 1.5 million martyrs whose memory is central to the Algeria Victory Day observance.

Speakers at the embassy highlighted Algeria’s post‑independence progress and its historical role in supporting liberation movements worldwide. They also recalled the longstanding bonds between Algeria and Pakistan, emphasising shared principles of sovereignty and solidarity. The event reiterated a commitment to strengthen Algeria Pakistan relations through deeper diplomatic engagement and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The commemoration in Islamabad placed special emphasis on national unity and the legacy of the revolution, linking the remembrance of past sacrifices to contemporary efforts toward economic development and securing independence in all its dimensions. Attendees left the embassy with renewed resolve to promote the values of independence and cooperation that define Algeria Victory Day and the annual Youm an‑Nasr observance on March 19.
