Mangrove Afforestation and Carbon Credits in Sindh

Transparency International Pakistan (TI-P) and the Sindh Forest Department have joined hands to equip journalists with knowledge about mangrove restoration and carbon credits, promoting better media coverage on climate change governance and financing.

Under the partnership, TI-P will organize a comprehensive exposure session with the Sindh Forest Department, offering journalists crucial insights into mangrove afforestation projects as well as the developing field of carbon credit management within the province. The collaboration falls within Transparency International Pakistan’s Journalist Fellowship on Climate Governance and Finance, a program specifically designed to encourage accurate and responsible reporting on climate-related issues.

The Sindh Forest Department has been recognized for playing a pivotal role in restoring mangrove ecosystems, an important natural solution aimed at enhancing climate resilience and mitigating effects such as floods and coastal erosion. Mangroves provide significant environmental benefits, including acting as carbon sinks and improving ecological balance.

Transparency International Pakistan continues its broader mission of strengthening transparency, accountability, and good governance in climate-related financial mechanisms. By building journalists’ capacity to thoroughly understand and clearly report on climate governance and carbon finance, this collaboration seeks to directly promote informed public discourse and responsible climate action policies in the region.
