The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability and a green campus vision through an ongoing tree plantation campaign. President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed personally planted a tree at the university’s Administration Block, highlighting the university’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly climate action and life on land.
Accompanied by senior university leadership, including Vice President (Administration & Finance) Prof. Dr. Abdul Raheman, Vice President (Research & Enterprise) Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, and other key officials and staff, President Alahmed praised the Directorate of Administration and Horticulture Section for their dedicated efforts in beautifying and maintaining the campus. He acknowledged the tireless work of the gardeners, commending their role in sustaining the university’s green spaces during the ongoing planting season.
President Alahmed emphasized that the tree plantation initiative is both a prophetic tradition and a vital service to future generations. He urged the university community to take collective responsibility for transforming IIUI into a model institution for sustainability and environmental stewardship. According to the President, the campus should reflect not only academic excellence but also values that nurture both minds and hearts through a healthy, green environment.
The campaign has involved broad participation across the IIUI community. Female staff members actively joined in, planting saplings alongside their male colleagues in the Administration Block courtyard, illustrating the inclusive nature of the university’s climate action efforts.
Operating under the slogan “Save the Environment by Planting a Tree,” the campaign seeks to instill environmental consciousness within the university culture. It supports global climate action targets, with a particular focus on SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
IIUI’s tree plantation drive stands as a demonstration of its enduring dedication to environmental awareness and a green lifestyle, contributing positively to Pakistan’s ecological future.
