Awami Express Derailment Near Lodhran Leaves One Dead, 32 Injured

A passenger train traveling from Lahore to Karachi derailed near Lodhran Railway Station, resulting in one death and injuries to 32 passengers. The derailment, caused by a reported brake failure, led to major disruptions in rail services across the region.
The accident occurred when three coaches of the Awami Express were completely derailed, with three additional coaches partially coming off the tracks. Emergency services, led by District Emergency Officer Engineer Shakeel Ahmad, responded quickly to the scene. Rescue personnel provided first aid to 11 passengers at the site, while 22 others were transported to District Hospital Lodhran for further treatment. Despite rapid medical intervention, one passenger died at the hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Local police, headed by Acting District Police Officer Akram Niazi and supported by SHO City and DSP Sadar, coordinated rescue operations alongside teams from Bahawalpur. Medical teams at District Hospital Lodhran continue to care for the injured, whose ages range from young children to elderly passengers and hail from various cities including Gujranwala, Lodhran, Khanpur, Lahore, Khairpur, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Khushab, Nawabshah, Rahim Yar Khan, Karachi, Khanewal, and Mirpur Sindh.
In response to the incident, railway authorities have launched an investigation to identify the cause of the brake failure and prevent similar accidents in the future. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to restore normal rail operations and support the recovery of those affected by the tragedy.
